Wirelessboy,

It sounds like you're looking for a trend.

Let MRTG run for at least a week before you really look at the stats (if you can). The more data points you have, the clearer the pattern will show (if there is one), and one 24hr period won't do the trick.

About a year ago, we actually had it running for a month before we detected a pattern. Every Tuesday at 10am local, the Canadian Frame Relay circuit would hit 100% for about 20-30 minutes. Through MRTG, we found the date and time. It turned out that half of our users in Canada had their PCs imaged with a US corporate image, so when the virus scanner kicked off at 10am on Tuesdays, 60 PCs started to download the latest .dat files across the Frame cloud, clogging the pipe and blocking their access to the other corporate systems. In additon, the email replication between US Corp and Canada for our store managers also takes place every 30 minutes (on the hour, and the half hour), which also added to the problem.

Food for thought.
