Cisco Fundamentals on 604

| For 604 will the test consist of the older switches and routers or the newer ones for the Cisco Fundamentals? | |

| I took it in October and at least a third of the test was on the different models of switches. Drove me nuts cause I've never worked on those and the books don't mention them much. Since I didn't know what kind of switch they were talking about when it asked a question about configuring it I didn't know how to answer it because the choices were in either ios or set commands. They asked me a lot of questions on the 3500. You should probably know what the xl at the end of some model numbers mean. I expected more vlan questions but it was all about the models of switches to use in certain situations. I passed though, whew! | |

| Switching for the CCNP is half and half on the two basic models of switches, one side as the CLI based 1900 and 2900 type switches and the newer 5K, 5.5K type switches. Most of the studying will be centered around doing parallel tasks when you can, some of the higher functions, such as MLS, will only be on the 5K to 5.5K switches.
The push of the knowledge is based on using switched core architectures and how to connect the blocks efficently with redundancy from access, distribution, to core, then applying the RSM or external routers to provide the routing functionality to whole scheme.
In a nutshell, that is the largest portion of it, there are some little add-ons such as IGMP, CGMP, HSRP, and policy. | |
