DHCP and Cisco 2514

| Hello everybody,
I recently setted up a home network lab with a cisco 2514. I created two subnets connected to two ethernet interfaces of the 2514 configured with a ip helper-address to forward broadcasting messagges. Microsoft xp/98 are able to get an IP address from the W2k DHCP located on a different subnet from but w2K professional doesn`t see the server. I know that w2k pro is well configured since it is able to get an IP when is on the same network of the DHCP. Am I missing anything on the router configuration? Why do 98/xp work fine in getting an IP but I have problem with w2k pro?
Thanks for your help....

| Let's do the obvious first. Is the Win2K Pro on a port that is included in the subnet that has a DHCP Server?
If not, does the port itself have an IP address for it with a Relay Agent set up for DHCP?
You may want to to sniff the port, you can use the software monitor on the switch to see what the switch is doing with the packet.
You should make sure that the DHCP servers have Log Files turned on and see if they are not responding to the DHCPDISCOVER packet, it maybe because it views the machine as being out of the subnet they hand out dynamic addresses for.
I hope this helps. | |

| Thanks for your help copprtop...
W2k pro, as xp and 98 PCs, is connected to a cisco switch where no VLAN is configured. The switch is connected to the first ethernet router`s interface whose ip is 10.1.16.1 and has an ip helper-address configured with an ip=10.1.8.2 (which is the ip of the DHCP server connected to the other ethernet router`s interface with ip: 10.1.8.1). While xp and 98 get an ip with the right sope, w2k pro doesn`t see the server.
As you said, I will probably heve to sniff the port and see what is going on with the pockets sent by the PC.
Thanks for you help again...

| Make sure the subnet masks on the port, the relay agent, the server, and the addresses to be handed out by DHCP all match :-)
10.x.x.x by default has a 255.0.0.0 mask and you might have changed it one place and not another. |
