| Hi,
I hope to do my CCNP recert next month Novem 2003, ie about 2 weeks. I have read the Exam Description of the 642-891, I can see that many new things.....
Can anybody recommend books (Ciscopress, Sybex...), materials, sites, etc that can prove helpful. I sure need to do the recert fast or I loss my CCNP. I also heard I will also be automatically recert for the CCDP if i do the exam.
How hard is it? Length of questions??? time available for exam???? How tough compared with Foundation exam ???
Any advises for me will be highly appriciated.
Thanks in advance. | |

| At your level of experience, I would recommend the Cisco press books. You will need the study materials for 642-801 and 642-811. Cisco is still working on a new book for 642-801.
CCNP and CCDP now have the same recertification exam - 642-891.
120 minutes, 80 - 90 questions.
I don't know how tough it is, since I haven't take this particular exam. I do know that one of my co-workers recently failed the 642-801 exam. It was his first try, and he prepared using older Cisco study materials. One of the sim questions involved configuring NAT and ACLs, which he wasn't familiar with . Another involved multi area OSPF and configuring a virtual link to the backbone area. He also said he had several IPv6 quuestions on his exam.
Cisco has a fair amount of information on their website concerning IPv6 and configuring NAT. If you have older Cisco press material for the CCNP BSCI and BCMSN exams you can probably get the additional info for the exam from the Cisco website. I am currently studying for 642-521, and the study material for this exam covers NAT and ACLs in some depth. | |

| For people recertifying, chances are you were taking the version one or two exams before simulators were introduced. Well you will see them now.
The new Composite exam is based on the current routing and switching exams, so don't assume the subject matter is the same as three years ago.
Expect an average of 88 questions with a passing score of 755 and a two hour time limit.
The Boson Composite Exam #1 is well done and should point out your weaknesses so you know which chapters of Doyle and others to reread. I did look at Boson's #2 exam and wasn't impressed, but in fairness I didn't go all the way thru it.
Good luck to ya,

| Hello.
I cleared the exam today to secure my CCNP and CCDP. I would rate the exam as average. It's a 2 hour exam with 88 questions equally distributed between Routing and Switching and does include some simulations.
Passing score is 755 and you cannot go back to any question.
I prepared from my old BSCN and BCMSN Cisco Press books. Additional reference materail can be found at Cisco website. As per Cisco exam guideline, one should know about IS-IS, QoS, VRRP, IRDP, VLAN Maps, MST, RSTP, IPv6 IOS based Catalyst switches. All this material was not included in earlier Cisco exams.
Good luck to all who are planning for this recert.
