| Hi everyone,
I passed CIT a few days ago and now I'm a CCNP.
Thanks for all the help from this discussion forum.
Bad news is I'm losing my job soon. My company told me
that day after I passed it.
I was hoping that this cert helps me to move up but didn't
do much.
Since I don't have much strong experience it'd be hard
to get a job which can give me a good opportunity.
Well, I just do my best whatever I can do.
Thanks, | |

| Unidon,
Congrats with your pass on CIT and also becomming a CCNP Cisco Pro.
Stupid Company, the Gov should do something about this, they are killing the ict-industry of the US by selling the jobs or production to China or .......! Maybe it is better to hire a console in China or ....
What will they do next! hire somebody from another Planet for some bukazoids(space money)!
Unidon go on with your certification.
Your perfect job will come soon!
bye. | |

| Thank you aksel!
I have a question. I got CCNP but it didn't help me to keep my job,
and probably won't help too much to get another job because my networking
experience is not so strong.
So, should I still keep studying for Cisco certifications or should I do
something else? For Cisco stuff it's hard to have hands on practice since
they are so expensive and I can not afford it.
Or maybe should I study and practice unix/linux stuff because I can set
up my own machines to play with.
I don't know what to do right now, but I know I should do something instead
of just wait for something.
Please give me any kind of suggestions or advice.
Thanks again. | |

| Unidon,
Try to find a network engineer position. In the mean time work on more certifications. Do you have a 4 year degree? In this day and age managers can't justify a high salary employee without a degree.
It just looks better to corporate executives.

| bloodshotx,
Yes, I have a degree but only BA in Business not
in computer science or engineering.
Problem is they are asking too much experience
like "7 - 10 years", "network systems building
expertise" and etc. And I don't have it.
So which certification do you suggest?
Thanks, | |

| Not sure why "degree" has a link to other page?? | |

| Which CIT version did you take? The new 642 version? It is my last test and I only have the old book for the 640-606. I am wondering if I can get by with that book.. | |

| I took 640-606. I used Cisco press book for 640-506.
Sorry but I don't know about 642 version.

Hi Unidon,
Good question, very good question.
But it is a tough one.
Like every good and tough question cisco has the answer.
You know the only right answer is a cisco answer, no just kidding.
With your CCNP level and MCSE, Linux+, etc etc you need a certification(s) that will give you asap a job,and also money you need for your study. In your situation and with your CCNP, I would go for Cisco IP Telephony Specialist (Design(need CCDA), Operation and Support). There is a demand for those specialist on high level. So you have your CCNP what is next? IP Telephony and later Security (CCSP).
But you have to take any job that will bring you in the neighborhood of those core and distribution layers. Even if you only may pull some cables around the equipment rooms. Be allert on people who need help or can give you tips on the job.
And be prepared on situation that could happen, so you will be more certain.
And if you ar working as a freelancer be sure that you have backups on friends who will help you out if you come in a difficult situation. And go world wide not only around the corner because you need the money and there are a lot of experts in the US/world.
But you have to set a goal. I would go for CCIE (R&S or Security or Service Provider)
Keep looking with one eye in the books to obtain a Master degree on ICT and economy and management of resources. So you will be your own boss and you can go on vacation when ever you like.
Don't understand me wrong, I am not against Linux or Unix(SUN/HP-UX/AIX/SCO-Linux (yoke), etc etc) but you can't compare any other OS with the IOS of Cisco.
If you have a partner or children or other relatives, I hope they will understand your choice and will support you.
Good luck with your certifications!

I don't know what to do now.
Probably keep reading those Cisco press books that I used for CCNP so that at least
I don't forget those thins until I get a job.
Thanks again, | |
