Hi
this is my first post - dont hold it against me

i'm planning on doing my CCSP - Cisco Certified Security Profesisonal. it's an equivalent of the CCNP and involves VPN's, intrusion detection, firewalls..

I'm a CCNA and i've got 4 good months of experience. but i'm looking for a job now and thought this would really give a boost. plus i'm real interseted in network security.

what I wanna know is, would I be able to make the CCSP with just self study? i did it with the CCNA - mostly self study anyways. Would two months be adequate?

2 months to be CCSP.. You've got to be kidding.. beside i guess that self-study only will not be sufficient since this track deals with firewalls and ID systems and VPN.. and all these stuff needs a lot of hands on experience.. make up your mind and make it at least 1 year instead of 2 months..

thanks for your opinion - i think i'll probably be taking your advice.

but arent there people who manage to get through with the scenario i presented? at least at the CCNP?

Sulphur, I have NEVER taken a class on any computer/network related issue. Everything I have ever done has been self study (and I have about 5 certs, two of them premier), and just because someone tells you that you need hands on, WHICH YOU DO, doesnt mean you cant do that at home, in your own time, or in a work lab. Look dude, you can get what you need for self study. YOu may have access to work related PCs/routers/whatever that arent being utilized. There are simulators. There is voluteer shadowing even if you want. You may have to be creative, but you can do all of this on your own without spending thousands of your hard earned dollars on someone teaching you. BUT..... there are some people who NEED to be in a classroom to study. If you are motivated enough, you can do it on your own. JUST MAKE SURE YOU LEARN THE MATERIAL, AND DONT JUST GO FOR THE PASSING OF A TEST.

thanks dude.. i think we are rather similar.
i've never gone for a computer related class.. not only have i completed my CCNA with only self study, but thats how i managed to MASTER various softwares like
3d studio max, Maya and Photoshop. In fact most of my engineering degree i managed with self study too.

but i'm still relatively new to networking and the CCNP/CCSP certification has obviously got to be tougher than the CCNA.
i think i can crack it with self study but i need feedback from peers in the industry .

i hope other people also give me thier opinions as i'm still trying to decide whether to go ahead and start studyin for the CCSP. I eagerly await any replies to this post. thanks again.
