| Question for all you networkign gurus out there. I have this new ISProvider, and everything is working fine, except for my upload, when i do an upload test on a site, i have to wait 2-3 minutes before i get a reult. The reult turns out to be a negative number ( -5 ). With this in mind I've done tests for ftp and web.
I have a web browser and a FTP server on my computer, when people with Cable modem, DSL lines connecting the web/FTP server, nothing can be donwloaded from the Web/FTP server, Uploading to the server is fine, but not download
(On the web/Ftp server, it cannot upload)
BUT<-- big butt here,
if we use a slower connection, like dialup from an ISP, it Uploads/downloads fine, everything is fine.
I have no access lists or firewalls set, i've even tried hooking the computer directly to my Modem, nothing works.
does anyone know the reason for this?

| Who is your ISP?
Is it Verizon? | |

| yes and also system metrics,
i think we go through systemmetrics, and verizon, i'm not sure how it works.

| I have my own DSL also with Verizon. To do my uploads I configured at least both routers to a 21 port for FTP. And maybe once or twice it halted on me. I just stop and restarted the service.
Try microsoft tech support if anything;

Wanna try this?
Go to www.dslreports.com
From the menu on the left, choose "DSLR Tools", go to the box labelled "Speed Tests", and follow the instructions from there.
I tried it with my PC at work, (10M ethernet and 2M dedicated Internet connection) and got the results back within 20 seconds.

| hey guys, thanks for all your help,
probelm fixed, the problem wasn't on my side,
it was on my ISP's side,
they had to set their MTU higher to 1540
|
| It might be a stupid question - but that never stopped me before!!
Can the MTU size actually affect something like this???
I thought that incorrect MTU size simply affected overheads, i.e. packets would be fragmented or wouldn't be as big as they could be.
The following link refers to PIX, but the principles are the same.

Maybe I'm missing something - or they could be fobbing you off, which is something all ISP's do regular in the UK!
It's amazing how many times you spend hours working on a fault, they insist it's not there end and suddenly the line comes up - but they didn't do anything (telco in this case)!! It once happened on 2 physically separate circuits simultaneously (1 voice, 1 data) and they still insisted it was our problem and we changed something!

| we did many tests, and right when they changed their mtu then everything worked all of a sudden, we spent many hours troubleshooting this, and this is what we came down to, this problem occured like almost a year ago. and it's been working well since. | |
|
| Woah - deja vu
Almost a whole year for a response - that's not bad!!
