| Thats a Very Good Question.....
I have the Same Question...
But as I Continue to Press on in CCNP
I have found at least one use for Loopback Interface. Its a virtual interface
and since its virtual it never goes down.
Its Reliable!!!!
This is Good when u Use OSPF
OSPF uses a router interface & priority to Determine its Designated Router and Backup Designated Router if you use a LOOPBACK INTERFACE then the interface never fail.. AS a Result it is very reliable.....
Hope I said that Right....
But thats My understanding I'm only on chapter 4 of Building Scalable Cisco Networks
Maybe one of the Vets can clean it up...

| The main purpose of the loopback interface is to allow client and server on the same host to communicate with each other using TCP/IP.
Datagrams sent to a broadcast or a multicast address are copied to the loopback address. Because broadcasting & multicastign includes the sending host.
Anything sent to one of its own IP address is sent to teh loopback address.
