Hi everyone,

I'm a recent CCNA (4 days) wondering if anyone can recommend a good study plan for the CCNP exams. I have an idea what books I want, but I'm wondering if it's a good idea to use the Sybex CCNP router simulator or if that's not nough. I can buy some routers and switches if need be.

I'm pretty certain that, for books, I'll use the Cisco Press 4-book kit for CCNP that was published last year. I destroyed the CCNA exam primarily with the help of the Cisco Press Cert Guide so I'm kind of partial to their publications now.

As far as router sims go, does anyone have any recommendations? I've heard that if you're intelligent enough you can pass the exams with the router sims but that you won't learn as well, and I've also heard that that's crap and you really need to use your own (or someone's) routers to pass.

If I need to get some lab equipment, what kind of budget do I need, and what kind of stuff can I get by with?

Thanks for the input,

Katama

I think you should try to have access to both. I am leaning towards Boson's router sim. But I am still pressing to get at least up to two routers and a switch. I think beyond that, it's probably overkill.
