| HI
i have just done my ccna course (not certification) because i m currently a student of comp engg and i have a year and a half left to my Bachelors.
The teacher(who is ccie) advised me not take certifications at the moment.Study the courses and then when u r about to enter in the market (which would happen after a year & half) then do ur all certifications
so perpetuating the teacher i have done my ccna and now looking forward towards ccnp
Now here are my questions
Is the teacher right that i should only take certifications when i enter the market
what's ccnp contents and how many papers.
Are they electives. which of them should be studied first.etc
please guide me towards the world of ccnp

| Keep in mind, each certification lasts only 4 years... so if you're in your 3rd year at uni and have ccna, it'll be good only for 3 more years after you graduate.
The up side to it, you've got it and could put it on your resume/cv. Plus as time goes by I'm sure the exams will get harder and more in depth.
So plan wisely, as you should with everything else in life... | |

| The cisco certs are valid for 3 years not 4. I copied the following directly from the Cisco web site.
CCNA certifications are valid for three years. (Advancing to the next level or recertifying at the Professional level automatically renews the related CCNA certification.)

| The key is that you are a undergrad now, taking the cert now, will give you the cert while you remember the materials. However, because that you are a student still, you will lack hands on, you will be required to refresh all the material when you are getting your interviews, but that will not be certs. Certs are specific. I would say take the cert now, you will have 1.5 year before you need to recert after you graduated. Refresh the material before your job interviews. | |

| I agree cert now while you have the material fresh in your mind. If you put things off too long it will creep up on you.
This also depends upon the work load you have. Also think of it this way you can test out on the ccnp 3.0 stuff and it might take a year to complete it so you can take your time to get your CCNP 3.0.
Of course the CCNA is the first step and take it while you are fresh.
Good Luck. | |

| That line about taking all of the classes and then getting your certs is just what all of the training schools try to tell everyone. The reason they tell you that is because they don't care if you pass or not they just want to run you thru there classes as fast as they can like cattle. Once you have taken all of the classes they are done with you. Its just a fact of business. There bussiness plan would not work if it took each student 1 1/2 years to go thru there school. |
