Hi, my name is Vishesh Jain and I passed my CCNP in December of last year. Since then I have been looking for a job but, had no luck. The biggest reason for that is because of my age. Since I am 18, my credibility and knowledge of Cisco networking is doubtful by all employers. I have thought CCNA in a couple of places but teaching is really not my thing. I want to work in an actual networking situation. If you know of any jobs in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) please let me know. I continue to search on websites such as Hotjobs, Dice, NYTimes, and Career Builder. I am also willing to work as an intern in order to gain knowledge and experience. Please feel free to see the resume I have attached. If this attached resume is not viewable, please e-mail me at vishesh_jain@hotmail.com and I will gladly send you my resume .

Thanks.

Jain -

Your age is only a barrier in your own mind. Don't let that limiting belief stop you. You will get hired. Believe it ! Know it !

PEACE!

Your certifications look good.
But the limiting factor is expierience.
I`m not sure what level job you are looking for.
Despite the previous post your age can limit peoples perception.
They could think "how much expierience could an 18 year old have?"
That is what I would think.
Now I would look at you as an overall package and say as a hiring manager, "he is young but motivated enough to achieve a fairly high level of certification, perhaps I could bring him on in an entry level position and see if works out, then if he does I can put him on some more challenging projects."

What have you applied for by the way???

Well I applied for A LOT of jobs. Almost every job I can find that relates to networking in NY and NJ. I am even willing to work on an internship. I need experience. Thats what I am lacking. Maybe its my resume that isn't good enough. Is there anyway I can make my resume look more professional?

Thanks.

Nice resume man, i like the setup and all,

and yes, your problem is your lack of age, education and experience

so you graduated high school and got your CCNP, 2-3 years ago you would be making 70k a year right now, but these days people want a educated person with certifications and EXPERIENCE,,,,

I think you can find someone to get over the age thing for you if you look hard enough, i would suggest the intern thing, there are plenty of community college's that would help someone like you showing your interested if you just take an english class or something they would probably hire you.
once you work an intern for a couple months you should have some pretty good references to go along with your experience..

we are all right beside you with the economy man, just keep pushing

Things are actually looking up in my area
which is rural Ky.
New companies moving in, lots of activity in the tech job market.
Specialists need not apply though, or I should say you can specialize but you better know quite a bit more than your specialty in this area.
Also the pay is not what you will find in a metropolitan area but you don`t need as much in rural kentucky as you do in say Atlanta.
Things are opening up here.
I hope the city techs don`t start mass migrating to rural communities now hehe.

How is the Cisco Academy going.
In my area it is a joke.
Is yours a good program?

Personally I can`t see spending 4 semesters for just a CCNA`s worth of knowledge.
Maybe the program there is better than I have seen here though.

I think Cisco Academy is a joke. We had the Cisco Academy program in my high school and I was enrolled in it. I completed all 4 semesters, although I had my CCNA before I even started on Semester 3. I suggest you read books and use your Cisco Academy program to get the router experience you need. Read the book and practice in your Cisco Academy class. That should be more than enough. Good Luck!

You are better off hiding your CCNA/CCNP certs, that bring you over qualification, I would not like to hire someone who will jump ship at the next available opportunity.

Knowing who your audiances are, you are better off to get a helpdesk job, in the door, then wait 6 months, work with the boss and learn the people skills and establish connections. At that point, show what you got, you will have a much better chance even at other places when you have something under your belt!
