Hi group
I hv recently installed a Win-NT server for ISDN dialup access(64k) to the internet in my company(ISDN modem connected thro serial port of the server). This basically is for accessing web mail servers & other company servers & also selected websites thro internet.I am planning to install win proxy as the proxy server in the Win NT server but i hv not done it so far.

I hv some queries for which I need the help of the group

1.I want to measure the throughput of the ISDN link & response time of the sites i.e.web server, mail server etc.How can I measue this?is there any freeware tool on Win NT which will do this?If yes pl let me know the site

2.The isdn link we r using is 64k.Can I combine both the channels & hv 128Kbps at a time? I want to access the Internet at the speed of 128KBps at all times instead of setting a threshold on the first channel. Is that possible?

3.I also find that the speed of this link is slower than 56K pstn dialup link. The main idea of we going in for ISDN dialup is speed but still it is surprising to me that the ISDN link is slower than pstn dialup link.Is there any configuration which I may try to improve the performance

4.This is a basic query.I just want to know if there is something known as ISDN leased line? How different is this from ISDN dialup?

Thanks for ur patience & ur support in advance

Good day to all of u!

You'll have to review the docs for your ISDN modem to override the threshold settings. Depending on the vendor and model, you should be able to configure always on or vary the threshhold to get the second channel to come up. You'll want to verify how you are getting billed for usage, however.

I personally have never seen a dial-up modem that could beat an ISDN connection. You may want to do some network monitoring and see if there's some optimization for your network. Also check the speed on your serial port, make sure that is set to maximum. (Defaults to 9600 baud)
