Howdy folks. Quick question. I can not route between two ethernet interfaces on a Cisco 4000. Here is the environment: Linksys router connected to the Cisco 4000 and hosts on the other side. Each ethernet port is on a separate 192.168... subnet and the router is running bersion 12.2. From both sides, I can ping the BOTH router interfaces, but can not ping both networks, or hosts on either network. The config is new, and there are no access lists. Why will it not route. Thanks for your help.

not much info here
you should be able to at a minnimum establish limited connectivity with static routing ?

the linksys only runs rip
i would set it to rip v2 send and receive

what routing protocol are you running on the 4k ?
how about posting your routing table ?

Sounds like the routers are connected by those same ethernet interfaces. Is that true?
If so, that's your problem and if not how are the routers connected? Then comes all the method of routing questions.

right
that would be bad

would you get an overlap message ?

you could make one interface participate on the
linksys "inside" network

I don't believe you would see any logged errors, just the basic symptom that were reported. Have to admit I ain't ever set up a scenario like that to really have tested exactly what you would see

I'm assuming that you are able to ping the interfaces from the router and the the LANs directly attacghed to each interface, but not from one LAN segment to the next. You need to turn on ip routing and set up some static routes (should only need to setup gateway of last resort really as router knows its directly connected networks).

check if your hosts points to the correct default gateway or if it even has a default gateway. keep us updated!

I am not certain but I think both of the interfaces have to be on the same subnet. If u have the interfaces directly connect then I think you would also have to have the same routing protocol/routed protocol. What are the ip address/subnet masks you are using? Maybe with that info someone can setup the same sceneraio and test it out.
