FYI, From Cisco July 23, 2002
quote:

NEW! Cisco Multiservice Switching Specialist Focused Certification

Cisco announces the new Cisco Multiservice
Switching Specialist certification. This new focused certification
replaces the previously retired Cisco WAN certifications (CCNA-WAN
and CCNP-WAN). The new focused certification addresses the needs
of network professionals who must successfully implement ATM
Multiservice switching and service provisioning based on Cisco
BPX(r) and MGX(tm) networks.

To become a Cisco Multiservice Switching Specialist, you must hold
a valid CCNA(r) certification and pass the ATM Multiservice
Switching 9E0-911, and the PNNI and MPLS Networking 9E0-921 exams.

Multiservice switches deliver cost effectiveness and reliability by
providing the highest port densities in the market, unmatched
scalability, and carrier-class reliability. Partnerships and standards
facilitate open networks that allow service providers to create the
most cost-effective and reliable networks for IP and ATM service
delivery, using one network infrastructure.

The new focused certification will provide candidates with the
technical expertise necessary to install, configure, support,
troubleshoot, and design complex ATM-based networks in the service
provider market segment. The recommended training is available
through authorized Cisco Learning Partners worldwide and includes:

Exam 9E0-911 "ATM Multiservice Switching," supported by the following courses:

WAN Quick Start (WQS 3.0)
Installing Cisco WAN Switches (ICWS v2.1)
BPX Switch and Services Configuration (BSSC 3.0)
MGX ATM Concentrator Configuration (MACC 3.0)
Cisco WAN Manager Installation and Operations (CWMIO 2.1)

Exam 9E0-921 "PNNI and MPLS Networking*," supported by the following
courses:

MGX ATM Edge Switch Configuration (MAESC 2.0)
SES Controller Configuration (SESCC 2.0)
Implementing Multiprotocol Label Switching (IMPLS 2.2)

* This exam will go live on July 29, 2002

The Cisco Multiservice Switch Specialist is valid for two years from
the date of passing the exam.

For those with previously earned WAN certifications, these will
remain active for a period of three years from the date achieved.
Recertification will then be required with the new Cisco Multiservice
Switching Specialist. This focused certification does not fulfill a
role in a corresponding Channel Specialization.
