Having just passed CCNA last week am looking to study towards CCNP. Is there a 'best way' to study for this certification, e.g does one module rely on knowledge learnt from another, is it better to study the modules in a certain order?? Also, which books to buy?? Cisco or Sybex. Prefer Cisco myself but have heard they are pretty heavy going for the CCNP modules.
Many Thanks

Heavy going is slow painful going but in my book it beats a fluffy "Here are the answers" treatment any day. Not only will it better prepare you for the exam but you will be able to do your job better. (if you're lucky enough to have one.) Unfortunately the CCNP module books do not all have Wendell Odom's flair... You should prepare to fight the writing more.

There is no set sequence for CCNP study modules, however, it is generally considered that the Support exam should be done last since it covers a lot of the material from the other three.

Personally, I am using the Cisco Press books. They are heavy going, but worth the extra effort - plus I am using them in a real life support role, so I can put the theory into practice. I did Remote Access first but that was only because I was in a support contract dealing primarily with remote access systems. (ADSL and ISP support) I am currently doing Routing because my knowledge of OSPF is not as great as I would like and BGP is key to supporting/designing internetworks. As for Switching; in a previous contract I was heavily involved with implementing and supporting Catalyst 5500 and 6500 switches.

The choice is your's, entirely.

Good Luck
