| Maybe this is some help.
I have a 3100 with a 3011 WIC in it and here's what I did and it worked fine.
Boot up the switch and press enter to get to the Password screen.
Press the SysReq button. This takes you to the System Request menu.
Select option 3.
Clearing non-volatile ram. Are you sure? (y/n):
SysReq: Resetting system.
Done.
SysReq: Press any key to Return to Menu . . .
(takes you back to the System Request menu)
Choose option 4. Reset the System.
SysReq: Resetting System.
On one attempt at the SysReq button, I've recieved the following after pressing the SysReq button:
SysReq: Beginning of xmodem download of main image.
SysReq: Waiting for binary file . . .$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Download failed: Communication failure.
(takes you back to the main screen requiring password)
At this point I pressed the SysReq button again and it took be to the System Request screen with all of the options.
Don't know why it happened like that, because I never got to the System Request screen to seek the xmodem transfer.
Another funny quirk for me about this switch was that my keyboard arrow keys stopped working with HyperTerminal with only one of my PC's. No problem, I like EasyTerm better anyway and switched to it and everything's fine. | |

| I am not sure but I think at the startup of the router if u press ctrl+x+6 it will break the startup mode and you will be in I think passwd recovery. I am not sure what the mode is called. It might be ctrl+shift+x. w | |

| Alright try ctrl+break at the startup. Just like F8 on a winddows pc. | |

| According to Cisco.... This is the procedure...
This document describes the password recovery procedure for the Catalyst 2600, 3000, 3100, and 3200 switches.
Step-by-Step Procedure
Press the SysReq button on the switch (next to the Reset button).
Caution: When you clear nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM), the password is cleared but all configuration parameters are also reset to their default values. This means losing all options previously configured on the switch.
Move the arrow key to clear NVRAM.
Press Return.
The system reboots and no password is required.

| That looks right. I know the ctrl+break is for the routers and I just assumed it would work with a switch. | |

| Happy it worked for you and that you're able to get into the switch. Remember when making any config changes on this switch to always return to the main menu to apply any changes that you've made. |
