Ok,

So I wanna take the foundations exam (covers Routing, Switching, and RA) and I was wondering if any of you Ladies and Gents have experience taking it? General Info, like does it get as specific as just one of the exams? and Is it harder/easier then doing one by one? If I fail it do I get another chance?
Etc Etc Etc....

Thanks,
Andrew

Don't be disappointed if you don't get any feedback about the Foundation Exam.
Since I've been a member on this forum, there have been 2 posts about it, asking the same questions.
I told the authors of those threads not to expect anything but maybe if they are lucky they might get some information. I also ask them to come back and let us know the results and information about the exam so that if such questions come up again, at least we will have answers readily available.

You could guess what happened. We haven't heard from none of them since. The fact is each of us here on this forum is not required to post information we might have. Each of us has the power to decide whether or not to post a piece of information, not including posting real exam questions. If the information is posted, it will at least be of use to someone. Supposing one of those 2 people posted something about that exam, you would benefit from it right now but unfortunately they didn't, and I can't blame them because they have their own reasons for not doing it.

Here you are, faced with the same situation those guys were in a few weeks ago. Will you come back and post something after taking the Foundation exam, so that someone else could use that information? I definitely will if I'm taking this exam. But as I'm not taking this exam, I will in the future post something that might be useful for someone else. I have given my contribution in several other ways, including this message. The reason I will is that here on the forum, whether you like or not, it is a "Give and Take" environment. The things that I've gotten from this forum, I don't think I'll ever be able to give as much back here. This is why any time I get the opportunity, I'll put in my contribution. Anyone who comes here just to take, he/she be forewarned that Nature is waiting for you around the corner and you will pay for it sooner or later one way or the other. Nobody on this forum will see you as just "taking" and not "giving" but Nature surely will. This is just a Natural Law: nothing in the entire Universe is free.

So the bottomline is this: are you going to come back and leave some information after taking the exam so that someone, who will be in the same situation as you are right now, will benefit from your post? I don't need your answer, as it is, of course, personal. And whatever each person decides to do, the consequences will follow him/her accordingly.

Aslee0,

I'm not sure if you'll get answers to your questions.
I've been reading posts here for about 2 months now and there's only been 1 post about this exam.

Exam Number: 640-509
Associated Certifications: CCNP, CCDP
Duration: 135 min (145-155 questions

each individual exam are 60ish in questions. each exam prolly have a few more basic question that are on technology shared among all... so if these topics are only tested once, you easily get 50 real questions of each exam on the foundation.

heh what do you honestly think? 150 questions at one setting... tough to keep your concentration. must pass on all 3 parts to pass the exam... ie, fail routing by 1 question, score perfect on switching and remote, you fail the exam... tougher? not the questions, but I would say definitely hard to keep concentration over 150 boring questions... I get bore after 30 and tends to rush through the rest just to get out... how long will you last?

I doubt very seriously that this would be easier than to just take the new exam... If I am doing the track , I definitely would rather take the new exam individually than to try to take the foundtation which still have the old question pool... tough it out, try the new one, or try foundation... if you are not confident in yourself and seek confirmation, then you are prolly not ready.

"not the questions, but I would say definitely hard to keep concentration over 150 boring questions..."

Agree! When I took switching beta (134 qs in total), I answered almost perfect in first 70 nos. but felt boring and tire afterward and turned out passed with only 840.

Hard to imagine how Do I cope with CISSP 250 qs. in 6 hrs. I think I may give up CISSP or turn to CCIP.

Thanks for the replys...

I'm not worried about concentration seeing that i ENJOY taking exams... and I usually take 3 practice exams covering each subject back to back... I like to finish strong.

The ONLY concern is how specific the questions may get and how many of those will be asked. I tend to get mixed up at times with the REALLY specific questions ( for example (for RA, Async connections... "What does the command &D do?" IF all questions are like that then I'd be a LITTLE worried.)

If I do decide to take the exam I will definitly contribute my input/suggestions, Sukuvi.

I was just curious at how many people attempted this exam and what the success/failure rate was.

Again, thanks all.

I took this test and finally passed on the third try. You can take it as many times as you want. It's 250 bucks each time. Each section changes. You can notice the changes while sitting the exam. It's a brutal exam. I would only recommend it for people who have a couple years of hands on experience. Good Luck

Hi guys,

I took this exam and PASSED at FIRST attempt by God's grace. I have posted my experience last year and have replied several inquiries about the exam
Allow me first to say that IT CAN BE PASSED. Exams are not designed to fail everybody just most people.

The exam COVERS all the 3 sub-exam well, so it is not a EASYCUT / SHORTCUT exam. You have to read the whole 3 exams materials well and practise well....

One main thing you should be careful about is TIME... the time is short for 155 questions and if you fail one , you fail the rest........

i will try to remember more details later.. it's been quite well o o o o

Hi,

Another bit...Yes, I did the exam FRS 2.0 and i passed it well by God's grace. it was cool, I may not be to compare it well to the 640-503, 640-504, 640-505 since i did not do that. But I believe it is easier then doing 3 exams .

But take note: you need to be fast as all there are about 155 ques for 165 mins. The exam is seperated into three sections and you will do them in sequece. you are not allowed to go back, you are not stopped until all your time is used up, so if you are not careful, the first 2 sections may use all your time.

You have to pass all three sections no options, even if you get 100% in two and fail the 3rd one.

I can say in summary that the FRS is just a little summary of the three other exams and you save an extra $120. and perhaps time( preparation that i mean since the 3 exams overlap in lot in general.)

that is all for now. You cannot go back, it is in 3 sections, you have to pass the 3 sections. The cisco course seems to cover it well and IT CAN BE PASSED. I will get more info later.

Sooner or later we have to confront that kind of all-in-one exam, the re-cert. exam.

hello,

actually, I think I'd rather re-take the four exams seperately but do them all in a four week period.

It would be the same amount of studying to take either track I reckon.

Having said that, I'll probably be employed on my final job by then and I may not bother re-qualifying...

Peter
