If your talking market share then there are really only 2 firewalls you need to look at.
PIX and checkpoint.
The reason I say this is that they have the largest market share.
If thats not a consideration then go with what works for you and what challenges you.

My question was that will it be good & + point to know the config method and skills of netscreen firewall . Should i learn this or this will be wastage of time ? So i can use that time in something else ? I think so now you understand my question well . About market shares i don't care .

AND THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY .

The reason I pointed out the market share thing is because if you spend alot of time learning to configure a device that only a small percentage of companies use you could be wasting your time.

Why learn a skill that is of no value in 98% of the businesses you may be working at.
Other than that I don`t care about market shares either.

Hey there is nothing to the netscreen unit it is very simple to configure. Learn the Pix so that you can learn the theroy behind security and why it works.

I've used both netscreen and PIX, Actually used the Netscreen as a VPN device. It's pretty simple to configure them. I have seen them used in 2 other places as well, one was a Financial Services company I use to work for and the other was a pretty large Network Data Center (Exodus). Exodus was setting up Point to Point T1's with Netscreens for the clients. I am not sure if there is a huge demand for Netscreen skills but if you don't know it, why wouldn't you want to learn it? Even if you are only going to set it up once in your life. I'm not saying spend 6 months working on them butspend a week learning how to configure them.

My preference is with PIX since I am very comfortable with their configuration but I know some other people who swear by check point...

What he said

I see your point about learning them at least a little.
Not make a career out of them but can`t hurt to have a little more knowledge.
Besides not every company can afford checkpoint or a PIX.
