Hi All,

This is my first message to the Forum. My name is Arnab . I am from India . I have passed My CCNP , I am a MCSE in Win NT 4.0, CNE 5.0 , passed CCNA 2.0 long back in March 2001 . Yesterday only I have passed CCNP last exam 640-606 Support. It was fairly easy . direct questions with easy answers. Use common sense /go through the books of Ciscopress CIT course thoroughly and u will pass. 58 questions and 776 passing marks.

But I am still wondering with my CCNP certificate and 3 years of experience is there still any oppurtunity to earn more ? I am earning only INR 12500 per month. After investing so much money for certification I am really not getting good opening.

Best of Luck.

Bye and thanx for the support that u all have rendered for my success.

Bye

ARNAB

Congratulations of passing your exam!
Congratulations on having a job!

I am not sure many would be able to give you a comperable feeling as to wheter or not you are being well paid. We have a very internationally diverse group on these boards.

Personally I have been laid-off and am looking for a position. You may want to look at it from that perspective!

Best of luck.

Is the cisco certs worn out or something. I know the economy is bad but I never see anyone on her that says I got a networking job or I make good money. I wonder why this is. I talked to a ccnp the other day and he said he had to go get a degree because he wants a pay increase. He was ccnp/ccdp and he took the lab for ccie. He has a good job already and he is ccnp. Yet when i come her all I her is people that don't even have a job. This makes me wonder if the certs are even relevant. It would be great if there were a few people that would post and say I have my ccna/ccnp and make x amount of dollars/job tile.

Congrats on getting your CCNP.

Welcome to the Club.
About jobs and pay, you just need to keep hanging in there, as there are many members on this forum with certifications and many years experience but no jobs.
So if you have one, just hold on to it tight so you don't lose for now.

Firstly, well done on your CCNP....
It's rather disheartening when reading these comments, as you are now well qualified with more than competent work experience. Chin up!

When and even before I began with Cisco, I was told it was the bee's knees, the "in thing" and well paid. Probably a few years ago or more, it was, but the Telecommunications and ISP industry has severely dried up/reached its peak, and there are more chances of being laid off than getting a pay rise.

Good luck anyway.....I'm sure things will pick up.

Congratulation to your months of hard work and now is your reward.

After reading through your posting, may I introduce you to search for "The State of Cisco Supply/Demand" in the CCNP Forum. Interesting contributions. That might reorientate your expectation.

For all of you ney sayers, and pessimists, I have a ccna and a great job in network support. i work for a national isp with 100's and 100's of cisco routers and switches, and cisco ip telephony. I am satisfied with my salry now, and was assured once i complete my ccnp, which the company pays for (if i pass ), not only will i get a hefty bonus but also a nice raise. And i know this is true, because my good friend that i work with, did just that last year. We are constently growing and expanding our markets. If you really want a job that utilizes your cisco knowledge, you have to find an isp that depends on cisco. As for those of you that think the market is dried up, I am seeing just the opposite, our customer base is steadily growing.

You have to go out and find the work, it is not going to come find you.

The next question orionsworld is: where is the company located and are they hiring?

orionsworld, lets be real now !!
what if u were to lose that job ? r u sure u will get another job (i doubt it will be immediately)...the rule is stick onto it while u have it.....so the others who dont have it are struggling to find one.

the market is bad from its peaks it reached last year.....thats what we r all talking about. in my dept. there were 10 people, now there r just 2 with 8 being made redundant and the other 1 working on shifts.

we r not pessimistic, u r just lucky but i dont blame u for thinking that way. there is another world outside ur office window if u wanted to look and stop blabbering about ur job profile.

Like i said, you have to go looking for the job. Our company is hiring 400 people over the next 3 - 5 years. These are all entry level, tech support jobs, which is exactly where i started 2 years ago. If you want the good jobs, you have to be willing to pack your things and move to the market that is good.

orionsworld, i dont think u understand well. u didnt get my point. none of the people here sit at home and wait for a job to land up on their roof. they r all trying. what are you trying to say by "look for the job".

about we being pessimists, if u read the posts here properly the mood is that the market shud pick up not its gonna go down.
u dont read properly do u? read mine and jimmynicola post.

besides u didnt answer my question. what if u lost your job?? or are u willing to quit your job and start looking like the others?
you mentioned you got your job 2 yrs back. have u tried looking now recently??

do u have any idea how much u will struggle to find another one. there r many people in this industry who have more knowledge and have a lot of experience than you have.

"none of the people here sit at home and wait for a job to land up on their roof"

that is pretty funny. Anyways I kinda agree with orionsworld inthat people will have to take crappy entry level jobs. Not that everyone here has even had that option. I am only ccna and have either a tech job or helpdesk with a few opertunities here and there. I did not think I would be ts ie and oe. Most people I work with have no certs either so it makes it even harder to swallow. The opertunites are just a few. I don't even bother looking for a "network" job especially iwth just a ccna. If I even find one they want someone with 50 years of cisco and 90 years of nt and unix experince and the ability to lift 50 pounds(thats what kills me everytime :-)

As far as loosing my job, the only thing that would cause that, is for me to do something that would cause me to get fired.
And about looking now, if you understood my post, this company is hiring 20 people every 30 - 60 days.

There is no doubt in my mind that you guys are struggling, but my whole point is that you are so negative. If you are negative about finding a good job, and dont think you ever will, then you won't

Orionsworld,

You are really a little too cocky in thinking it will not happen to you. I have a couple friends that worked for UUnet and have lost their jobs last week and they are some of the hardest working guys I know, as well as they have been with UUnet for about 5 years. They are out due to nothing at all they did, but what the company leaders did to the company.

Now for me, I as well worked for a national ISP that is now bankrupt due to the CEO and CFO stealing several billion dollars from the company and making a lot phony loans. It just did not matter how smart I am or how hard I worked I would have been gone all the same. I always thought the same way you do, and my company hired me 2 new guys for our NOC the week before they got rid of all of us.

orionsworld I know how you feel. I had ten years serving the same company. Last year I received special recognition and bonuses for re-designing the metropolitan network and LAN for my region. Moving a data center, and completing a disaster recovery. (The company actually reused the model for other regions, and packaged the model for other customers). So I thought my service was appreciated and very safe.
Then the corporation moved my "title" to another location.

I have an extremely strong sense of worth and know that I'll get a new poition. So I am optomistic that things will work out. Most of the people participating in these forums are trying to improve themselves, why else would they be in a certification forum.

Don't be blinded that any job is safe because of expansion. Sometimes one have gives while another takes away. Experience taught me that.
Wiredchild and others are illuminating similiar experiences. Not everyone looses a job. Most are doing their best to get work in the real world.

Congratulations! Arnad, keep your head up as am sure you'd get something better in the near future.

Orion, I think you are sounding very arogant in your reply to people on this forum. Well, I am sure you know that no one is indispensable. Being employed today does not mean you are so smart or extra valuable to this firm of yours that hires 20 to 60 peope per month or something.

IT in general has reached it's peak as someone rightly put it, so be sensitive to others currently seeking jobs in this field as times are hard.
