I just passed my CCNA test with score of 923. I want to continue to study CCNP. Can any expert give me some suggestion which books should I use?

Thanks a lot for your help, I will be around in this forum from now on.

Congrats on passing!

Probably the best books to use are the CiscoPress books. But don't limit yourself to one set of books either because there are usually mistakes in some of the books so with using more than one set, you should be able to figure out what's right and what's not.

If you can only afford one set, go for the Cisco Press...

Good luck!!

for me I used:

routing 503: BSCN/ciscopress, also reinforce with selective reading from Cisco Router for IP Netowrking Black Book/coriolis which I had prior to planning my study for ccnp.

switching 504: Switching cert guide/cisco press, main. Switching exam cram/coriolis, suppl, selective reading from Cisco Switching Black book/coriolis which I had again prior to ccnp study.

remote 505 : CCNP Remote cert guide/cisco press, BCRAN/cisco press.

support 606: ccnp support cert guide/cisco press main. cit supplementary, support exam cram/coriolis <-1 day read over prior to exam.

and of course cisco documentation online.

Actually there are 2 different sets: the Cisco CCNP Preparation Library and the Cisco CCNP Certification Library.
Each set has 4 books and each book covers each of the 4 CCNP courses.
All the books in the Certification Lbrary come with a Practice Test CD but none of Preparation Library books does.

Opinions about these 2 sets are very different, because most forum members didn't like 1 set for all 4 courses. They used one or 2 books from 1 set and the 1 or 2 from the other set. So I think it depends on each person how he/she follows the way the authors lead you through the book.

I bought both sets, as I could afford them. I also bought the Coriolis Exam Cram for all 4 courses.

So the bottomline is, buy 1 or both of these sets. But because of the mistakes, you will need to supplement it with a second or even third book.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your help. It's really helpful. one more question, should I buy the whole library or should I buy the separate certification guide? BTW, does anybody use Sybex's books? I read the CCNAstudy guide by Todd Lammle, it is very easy to understanding.

Thanks again.

I usually have at least 2 books per exam. I have used the McGraw Hill/Osborne series and Cisco Press. I always go out to the publisher's site to check for the errata. Then I make sure to do follow up on each topic at cisco.com.

My suggestion will always be to go to a book store. Pick up a few books on the exam you're working on. Read a few paragraphs on a topic in each book. Then ask yourself, which was a better read?

Never rely on one source of information. There are so many qualified instructor/authors out there. Maybe you can find one that "speaks" to you.
