hi all

Today I got my CCNP by passing the last exam - Support.

In order of difficulty I would say Routing, Switching, Support, Remote Access...RA being easiest.

640-503
640-504
640-505
640-606 (new Support)

Routing is hard because there are so many protocols and it is a big jump from CCNA. This is where job experience and hands on is crucial.

Switching was hard for me because I had never done switching before, having always been in Telecoms core, not LAN focused.

For this reason I did Global Knowledge course for routing as a refresher and a Training-Partners course for Switching.

Support was hard because it focuses on many protocols and technologies. It also steps you into LAN's when trouble shooting... something I hate!

Remote Access was easier...its like switching and routing combined...having said that its still easy to fail if you get cocky.

I passed all 4 CCNP's on first attempt and averaged about 800...I'm not one to inflate my pass mark...

If you are wondering what I used...
- few sites on web with sample questions...dont take them as gospel... widely variable questions and many are wrong
- I used all 4 Cisco Press books in the certification library as primary material. I dont have trouble reading these...unlike some...I suspect it may be because of my degree having taught me to look for pertinent facts in a sea of information...thats Law for you.
- some exam notes study material
- a Sybex CCNP Study Notes by Todd Lammle. This book is innacurate, poorly written and immature in its approach.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON braindumps AND CHEATNOTES! Buy good solid material written by the pros. I have seen some sample questions on the web and they are not representative of the Cisco exams.

I cannot stress enough that your biggest issue is choosing "best" answer and eliminating all the close answers...so you really do need to understand the technologies and protocols etc.

In terms of the Support exam itself...very straightforward in the topics...study the whole Support book by Cisco Press. The focus is exactly what you would suspect...I got 4 x 100% in 4 major topics and 0% in one...so who knows...

There were 11 topics tested...

Thats all I'm saying...so dont bother asking whats in the exam...you will only get a rude reply.

At the same time, when you pass it will feel more of an achievement.

For me...maybe I will do CCNA. But that will be it for Cisco for a while...dont want to become a paper certifier. I have got what I have by using appropriate experience and the certs simply verify what i can do. They are not a magic fix for the unemployed!

Followed pretty much the same track; however I was fortunate to take an intructor led routing course.

Switching and Support were easy.

Remote, never having to deal with that and having PC troubles during the test this caused problems.

Just realized, today, that to get the CC"D"P you not only need the CID but the CCDA!

Also, Cisco retired some of the CCNP specializations!

yeah a day or two off is in order...

I might push into CCDA and CCSA while I'm still in study mode...but I would prefer to be working...and I dont want to start paper cert'ing...

Having taken a year off work to complete my degree was just bad timing in terms of the job market...and that wee 911 incident...
