HI Guys,

Passed CCNA with 956.
Onto my CCNP Routing.

Please flood me with your knowledge, which routers are needed for a home lab. For now I bought 2503. What else is needed for a full functioning LAB of my own for CCNP?

At work I don't have much access to the routers.

Also suggest books (Sybex purchased) and testing softwares?

NOTE for Sydney siders:
Any one doing CCNP in SYDNEY, please contact raocisco@yahoo.com for mutual help.

Thanks.

I would get both the prep and cert guide from cisco press.

for ccnp lab.

2x2503 and isdn simulator for bcran
1x2522 for frame relay
couple 25xx
1x2600 for isl
1xcat5000 setbase
1x1900 ios

that pretty much cover all the technologies covered in ccnp.

Thanks Mikop for your swift reply.

Yes I do have 2x2503 routers and the rest suggested will be bought eventually.

Please break the items by certification-wise, what to buy when, ie my plans are in order of
503, 504, 505, and 506.

Please suggest? If possible rough price of the remaining.

Thanks.

The Sybex lab works ok. It helps you out and is relatively inexpensive. It will cover all four tests and give you basics.

Make sure you review the router labs prior to taking the 503 test. it is important to see the configs. I didn't use it as much for the 504 test.

You can lace cables and make fake wans with your 2500's but before you spend too much money check out the sybex stuff.

Unfortunately I play with the real stuff daily so I don't know how much that influences my opion.

Other wise get on ebay between 3pm and 5pm on monday tuesday and wednesday. You can catch better prices then. Doesn't seem to be so many buyers then.

Of course anyon ewho reads this will be tipped off.

I have a 700 series router with an NT1 you'll need for bcran cheap if you 're interested.

The CCNP Library from cisco press is great. I use it daily for on the job daily t-shooting. Also alot of questions come straight from the book. Look for bookstore coupons and try to get it cheap that way. It's $160.00 retail but has four books with a ton of knowlege.

Download the free transcender preview test and take cert21's free questions prior to any of your exams.

They provide some last minute focus.

Hi,
The Cisco press books are the best for the CCNP exams. The books are tailored for the exam are of coverage. Go for it always.

Meanwhile the sybex lab simulation is also an highly recommended stuff for the beginners.

Add a 2511 the Access Server for reverse telneting to all the routers and for dial-in labs. ISDN simulators are costlier than the real time ISDN connection. book an line with your local telco for 3 month I found out to be cheaper than buying one used SIM from Teltone or Adtran.
