Hi.

I wonder if someone can do me a big favour.
I know very little about multicast. Pim and Dence mode and whatever. I currently have 10 routers in our lab and shall try to learn more about it.
I need some kind of multicast source and multicast client.

Does anyone know a URL or something where i can download that?

I would really appreciate an answer.
I have looked around my self but i have not find any usefull. (perhaps becouse lack of knowledge???)

Thanks!!

Doesn't Norton Ghost use multicasting when sending images to PC clients.

IP TV maybe another. They showed us that on the Switching course.

Don't know any free stuff unfortunately.

Multicasting is more of a way that applications communicate, than a type of application itself. However, here are some apps that use multicasting:

This next link should give you good overview of multicasting and how it works.

When I was setting up multicast stuff, I would just ping the multicast address to make sure it was working.
It looks like you could try this, though:

I was thinking of running a private multicast lab until I ran out of time...

If you want to have multicast groups for learning purposes, I think you can source an IGMP Membership Report (Join) on a router through this command:
(config-if) ip igmp join-group group_address

I think this will create an active (*, G) entry on all multicast-enabled routers. The rest of the lab config depends on what you're running.

I haven't had the time to try this out, let me know if this works!!
