Do you ever just get tired of all the studying? Im not meaning to whine, but goodness, I feel like Im missing out on a social life, family life, etc, because of all the studying. Im close to taking this routing exam, and for those of you who have taken it already, you know how much goes into OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP. Does this quest for knowledge ever just end? I already know that to be on top, you have to continuously do exactly what we are doing, but geeezzz. Anyway, I just wondered if there was anyone else out there that felt this way. Later.

I am tired of all the study work because I have a wife and two kids and miss out spending time with them, however, I do believe that after I get a few more certs under my belt that I will be able to relax a little. It all will pay off. I usually take off maybe a week or two between cert testing.

I started my CCNP 52 days ago. So far I have done the 503 and today the 504. Passed both in the 840 to 850 range. I work full-time and have a 32 hour a week part-time!! It can be done!!!

It was once said, that know one should get between a man and he's dreams!!!

My family knows this and I am aiming for the CCEI by September 30th. My family knows well what it is at stake and all support it and leave me alone during my study time (which is all the time.. ).

Hang in there.... We will all reap the benefits later... This IS an investment!! An investment in your families future. Your children will learn a whole hell of alot from this!!! THEY will be better for this! You are setting an awsome example for them!!

Good luck my friend....

See you at the top!!

It is a sad fact of the IT industry that the more certifactions you have, the better you will get paid.
Plus it does make you feel good about yourself and gives you something to brag about, even if it is only to your IT buddies because nobody else has a clue what you're talking about!!

Hang in there - the results make it all worthwhile!! (Passed 504 with 881 yesterday!! )

hey guys,

i couldnt help but shake my head while reading your posts...

everybody is saying all this work will be worth it in the end but thats just not the case. The fact is that the pay for IT jobs is steadily decreasing and will continue to do so...This is aside from the economic reasons, as more cats get into the game it will push the curve down. Simply supply and demand...

spend time with your kids and ladies...your being lied too.

If your after money get into sales

hope this helps

Hi Guys,

Spot on, Sean, sales is where the money is. Plus you get better thought of by the company. The CEO thinks that anyone can be a techie but a good salesman is made in heaven...

I wish I could be a salesman but I don't have that 'killer' instinct. My attitude has aleays been, 'there it is, take it or leave it'. I could never push stuff onto people if they didn't really want it in the first place.

As for studying, I've stopped for now, too much work going on, night shifts so that we don't interrupt workers during the day, plus setting up a new business (away from IT) just in case I can't get another job as a techie.

Regards
Peter

well im sorry to hear such negativity, i dont know about you but i actually enjoy this stuff. I could not imagine pouring through all this info if i didnt like it to begin with. As for the money, no matter what you do, if you work hard you will find success. Dont get stuck in a rut!!
