Post Mortem Beta Exam Thoughts

| Well here it is, some notes on how I felt about the exam 351-001.
Facts:
The exam is 180 Minutes and 150 Questions.
I needed more time as I started to speed up when I saw the clock running down.
The topics are very broad and covered VoIP,
DLSW+, IPv6 and MLSP to name the topics I felt most troubled by.
About 30 questions were no-brainers that seemed right out of ICND.
Remember all the little details!
(ie: AD's,LSA types,Timers)
Some of the longer questions had simple solutions. But another grouping were complex configs and network diagrams that required as many as 4 exhibits for a single question.
For you ISP guys I saw a fair amount of HSRP questions and quite a bit of QoS stuff that required math to figure queue percentages.
My BGP scenarios seemed medium in difficulty.
SNAFU: One question had a blank exhibit box?
Another said "launch exhibit and be aware there are 3 exhibits" and there were none! But the question required no exhibits to answer.
Summary:
Well it was tough and it served to illuminate some weaknesses I have and some general lack of experience. I think they should add some time to the exam and if they migrate to this from 350-001 maybe it’s a good idea to take the current version.
How did I do?
30% of the questions I knew COLD
30% of the questions could have been in Sumerian Cuneiform for all I know.
The remaining 40% or so I felt I have a decent shot at or were educated guesses.
Did I pass, Nope Fraid not and I didn't deserve to either.
But I have this to build on.
Please no emails asking if I will violate the NDA, besides I am brain fried and would give ya a bum steer anyhow. | |

| I think it's usually a good idea to take those beta tests. The bottomline is you have tested yourself and now know where you need to focus on in order to get it right next time. | |
|
| Well the best reason to take the Beta is the cost.
350-001 is $300.00 usd
and the Beta
351-001 is $50.00 usd
So its worth it pass or fail. |
