| If it's just the 24 port switch you're getting then I don't think so. If it has a router module in it,or you'll buy one (like a ws-x3011), then I think it would be ok. Configuring the 3100 switch ports isn't like a 1900, 2900 or 5xxx. It's more like a 3Com interface, if you know what that's like, not bad, just different. If it's a good price and you'll have the route module, why not add it to your lab? Others may disagree with me, but it's cheap and will give you some hands-on work. If you want an inexpensive switch with a CLI like the 55xx or 65xx, you could opt for the 1200 series, which are plenty of on ebay.

| For your CCIE, 19xx and 29xx, and 5xxx CAT switches are what's going to help you out the most. |
