| Guys, I have been using the Sybex routersim and it seems to me that configuring OSPF is really not hard at all. In fact, it seems relatively simple. Am I missing something here, because it seems to me that it should be harder than this. I guess I mean that all of this reading Im doing on it, it seems pretty deep. But then to just say 'router ospf 100' then the network numbers + area they belong to seems really basic. Also, as far as the test is concerned, I would think it would be harder than that. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks. | |

| the only major diff. in configuring ospf is the wild card mask and the area.
u will get quite a few questions on the syntax of these commands as to the order in which they come,so be prepared for it.
there will be a few qts. on the topology in which u use ospf, like NBMA, pt.to.pt etc. how to configure those as well+their order and where they r done(interface)
dont forget rip & igrp for ur exam, u will be surprised.

| Well, like ANY routing protocol, the actual act of configuring it is usually quite simple. However, DESIGNING it is another story. With OSPF, there is a lot to think about. How many areas? Which router will go in which area? Will you have any stubby areas? Etc. etc . . .
Do you have access to a lab? I assume you don't . . . However, if you can actually get access to a fairly large lab (20+ routers), I would suggest you try to set up an OSPF network with as much diversity as possible. Then you will see where the complexity of OSPF comes in.
As far as the test is concerned . . . well . . . it's pretty basic stuff, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

| I must agree with BlueBaron! We have 500 routers and 30 areas and things get really hard to manage if you don't know what your doing. And I didn't when I took over but I learned really fast and many many sleepless nights. The simulator nor the test was any where near the real world.... Do your best to schedule a lab somewhere so you can try some real world excersises. I would stress this even more with BGP! |
