Ok having found this out the hard way:

Don't erase the flash on a Catalst 2900XL and try to upload a new one without being next to it...Just did it and it screwed up big style..I'm having to use xmodem to copy the new flash image...wow what speed 920bytes/sec of 1711 Kbytes on a 9600bps console connection...Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

I am not sure if it can be done on the switch but on a router wich I had to do the xmodem thing on I found out I could change the console port speed up to 19200 I think. I know I was able to speed it up a lot so you may want to try that to see if it works. It can be done from RMON

Well...as it happens...I knew about the router bit...However I could not find a way to do the same on the switch consequentley I had to use the slooooooooow method..still it did not take that long

BTW it is ROMMON>

One quick question: Who uses the .tar files as opposed to the .bin ones? I know the difference is the html/java stuff (for the .tar) I'm just curious.

Personnaly I prefer the .bin as this prevents ppl using the html inteface with either the Web Manager or the Cluster Manager SW....any thoughts?
