| Hello fellow members. I am in a real dilema here. I am currently in the Navy working basically as a DBA. I currently have and A.S. in Computer Networking and I graduate from U.O.P (Phoenix) with a B.S. in Information Technology in about six months. I am due to get out of the Navy in December. I will take the last test for CCNP this month. The only experience I have is with setting up the school labs and doing side jobs for friends at which I am really profiecient. My question is what job I should be looking at when I get out of the Navy.....and what pay range should I be expecting. I am not looking to make millions but at least what I am getting now. the experience is lacking but the degree shows I can be taught and the military background(8 years) shows commitment. What should i expect. | |

| have you considered trying to get an officer's program in the military? They may have something to give you more hands on in using your certifications and training. if that is not for you, you will need to look into the area where you will be applying for positions. In denver there is a position for CCNA no degree for 70k yet doing the same thing in Chicago is only payin 45k with a higher cost of living so check into different areas and you will find different things. GOOD LUCK! | |

| Myself, I did 12 years in the Corps, had to get out...
Didn't have the big IT experience but landed a job paying decent and went from there.
What would I have wanted to do? Stayed in, why? Retirement check. You may not think of it as a big deal now but it will be sweet when you get out.
Most employers don't pay medical, I pay $400 a month! Yeah, $400! Tack on mortgage, car insurance, food, gas, utilities I'm broke. I may not be making a huge amount ($57,500)but it's not chump change either.
I wish I was still a E-6 getting comrats, BAS/BAQ and all that other stuff.
You may land yourself a big paying job and call me an idiot.
Just my .02
