I do study at work. 15 minutes in the morning. And roughly about 40 minutes out of my one hour lunch I have.
My manager is pleased that I'm determined to gain so much

I work for a major consulting company. When you are not staffed on a project, and when there is no little research projects or proposal work to be done you are expected to better yourself and your skill set. This means I can study all day long.
In fact I have basically gotten paid to study for CCNP for the last 4 months since there has been no work. Although those days are coming to close in my situation as the company is not doing so well but even in good times I am told that you are still expected to better yourself when you are not staffed.

It varies week to week. If I'm really busy, I might not study at work at all. If I have absolutely nothing else to do, then I'll study all day. That's the two extreme ends of the spectrum and of course the former occurs more than the latter.

Exactly the same for me, when I'm busy I have to study in my own time but I get cut a lot of slack, and am allowed to work from home whenever I want - I get more done that way as well.

I typically study about 4 hours a day - but still the exams take an eternity!!

I have heard of some companies that don't even allow a day off for exams, so I guess I get it relatively easy, thats a benefit of working for a reseller in a "slow" period!

I am not allow to study at work and I have to do all my test on weekends.

I work for a nice company but it depends on each department manager. The company encourages certifications. They pay for training, test and give us a big bonus when we finish all the certs.

Hi,

you're so lucky if you get any financial gains out of your studies! My company have alowed me to study for several hours a day for the last year but only because there hasn't been much work to do.

They've paid for the first four exams, and a CCNA course a couple of years ago, but I've had to pay for the CIT exam and my CCNP books as they hadn't got any spare cash!

As for a pay rise...no chance. I'm still on the same scale as I was three years ago when I started, plus the annual incease of 1.5% - 2%.

It's been said many times in the past that your current company never really rates you as anything more than what you were when you joined them. It appears to me that a company would rather let you go and employ someone else at a higher salary than to pay you what you're really worth!

To get any decent recognition or a big pay-rise you have to move to a new company every 12 - 18 months.

Unfortunately that's a little tricky just now, but hopefully the job situation will improve during this year...

I have to laugh when I read reports about the salary reductions in new job offers. Apaprently most jobs are offering 20% less than they were this time last year but it's still 30% more that I currently earn!

Regards
Peter

First time I've seen this...how true indeed!

Only when I submitted my resignation letter to my first employer did they offer me something 'better'....I didn't bother to find what that was...

Hi,

I cannot study at work.... I do not get home until 9/10 pm so I often have to wake up to read at night... I do most of my reading on weekends..

So i guess my social life is kept on the hold once I am preparing for an exam...and of course with God's grace, I have passed....

I some time wish i could stop work for a month or two and deal squarely with the exams but.....

I don't have time to study every day.
I am a inhouse helpdesk support and worked long hours(more than 10 hours) most of the day due to company emerging projects these recent months.(To share with you guys)
I gave myself some months(one, two or three) to prepare for the ccnp test inorder not to be too stressful. however I will find time during weekends to study so I know I have progress and is improving everyday.
Be realistic, only to take the exams when you
feel comfortable with it(cause its S$210 per paper).
I had currently passed 3 ccnp tests and is working on my 4th test(CIT).Hopefully can take by next month.

wish me all the best in my exams

I'm not supposed to be doing that at work so I make up for the time after office hours.

But I'm starting to get all burnt-out and getting sick of just about everything. I'm gonna take my foot off the gas a little.

Occupational hazard?

Take it easy!!
