Also remember you terminology. A CAT 2828 is a layer 2 switch only. It switches frames - not packets.

Verify that spaningtree portfast is enabled on a per port basis. This will allow you to bypass the 50 second STP state process.

If you can ping the server and you know that layer 1 and 2 connectivity are good, then double check you server login permissions
