Power lost during IOS upgrading...

| Hi all,
Say I am upgrading a remote router via tftp server(e.g. copy tftp://1.1.1.1 flash , but the power is suddenly lost at the remote site during:
1) erasing the existing ios image
2) loading the new ios image after erasing
Upon reboot is there any issues with the remote router?
TIA,

| Yes, there won't be a valid IOS image when you load next time.

| What kinda router? With a 2500 you stand a better chance of remotely recovering then you do with a 2600, but either way you look bad. We don't tftp IOS upgrades unless the site is within a 50 mile radius for just that reason...

| With low-end routers 17XX and customer's business nature, it would be justified to take that risk...
Cheers,

I have been told by my coworkers recently that I am WAY TOO technical, and I need to practice speaking in easy-to-understand terms. In order to comply with their wishes and to serve the dual-purpose of answering this thread, please consider the following analogy in response to your question.
You are in surgery for a brain transplant. The donor's brain is superior to your own, and you are looking forward to the increased functionality and capacity. Your brain is removed succesfully.
However, when the moment of the transplant arrives, disaster strikes. The lights go out suddenly because of a black out. When they come back on, the surgeon realizes that he has dropped your brain onto the floor, and it has coincidentally landed into a pile of dust and debris that the cleaning person from the night before was supposed to sweep up.
Now, after the surgery, he can revive you, but chances are, you are not going to POST (wake-up). |
