| i guess the question everyone is going to reply to you is what were the two answers?
I can only come up with one answer: that is the revision number goes back to zero.

| well..i think thats the wrong answer u gave..
as far as i understand vtp has a special non-volatile nvram for itself. so 'clear config' doesnt erase the vtp details (including the revision number)..u will have to power cycle the switch to reset the revision number..
i tried this in a cat 5000 and it works..(the command 'clear vtp' to clear vtp nvram)
but the cisco press book by karen webb says the opposite..thats created the whole confusion.

| Rajv,
i get where you are going now. in other words, what you're saying is that the actual experience with (5000) catalyst doesn't do what is saying the book will do.
yes I agree witht you the books say that VTP is stored in separate NVRAM. However the book also says that when you clear the config, this will cause revision to go back to zero (power cycle also mentioned, but that this isn't what causes it to go to zero).
so if the Catalyst you are using doesn't do that after you clear config then definitely something is not right.
so you are saying the CLEAR CONFIG doesn't do it but the CLEAR VTP does ?? |
