| I passed my switching exam today with 950. I am pleased
One down, 3 to go! Hoping to finished CCNP before the end of the year. Now it's onto Remote Access for me, then CIT, and finally BSCI. But I have to finish my final Oracle OCA exam by next week (due to work reasons) and CCA before the end of the year because my 50% voucher (which everyone can get a hold of) is valid till Dec 31st. Loads of work for me!
Good luck everyone!
cheers,

| Congratulations,
What series of switch does this exam test? I heard it was the 2900 series but then posts in other threads say that it's the 3XXX series.
Best of luck with the other three!

| Thanks raocisco and Sexy Lexy! I'm over in Brisbane btw. Yes I seem to have a bit of energy at hand lately. Last I went for an exam was back in December last year when I went for the win2000 accelerated exam which was a beast.
Well Oracle is over for me and it's back to Cisco I have my remote access exam set for Friday. My work is of benefit here as I play around with cisco gear, aswell as other stuff like unix etc.
As for switch types you should know about, well, let me draw a table here..
-------
Access:
1900/2820 (small company, 10baseT)
2900 (50 users, CAD/CAM apps)
4000 (96 users)
5000 (>100 users)
Dist: (provides interVLAN routing)
5000 (small-medium company)
2926
6000 (medium-large company, high density)
Core:
6500
8500
-------
They are the major switches you need to know. Aside from that, you need to know some odds and ends like, for instance, the 5500 switch has a redundant sup-Engine (aswell on the 6000). Then you should know a few IOS commands for BOTH set-based and IOS-based switches. Need to know which model numbers are set-based and which are IOS-based. Here is a url for starters to help you identify whish is which (look toward the bottom of the page): http://www.ccxxproductions.com/generic.html?pid=22
Hope that helps!
Cheers,

| Just one other thing, for set-based commands I'd concentrate on the cat 5000. For IOS-based commands I'd look into the 3500XL. They are pretty standard switches and the cisco press books concentrate on those.
