Hi Guys

I was told on Friday that I'm to be made redundant, three months notice plus approx one extra months pay as compensation.

The good news is that I've had a couple of concessions from my boss, I can stay at work as long as I want (until my three months notice is up anyway!) and use the company phones/fax/internet connexion to find another job.

And I can leave immediately if I do find another job assuming the new company want me start ASAP...plus I'll get the full four months pay even if I left tomorrow.

So it's not all bad as long as I can find something. Had a look around the agency sites in the UK, not much there on Networks but a few jobs around on the telecom side (Avaya Index, Norstar Meridian, etc, leading up to VOIP) so I'm not desperate yet!

Let's see what tomorrow brings...

of course, if anyone knows of anything going here in the UK or anywhere in Northern Europe then please drop me a private message...

Regards
Peter

these days it's no shame to be made redundant, or laid off, as we say on this side of the pond.

In between scouring for a new job, do something totally unrelated to IT like parasailing or something that you always wanted to do but never had time for, and keep smiling. It's not you.... it's the $%@#$ economy!

Hi marathoner,

thanks for that. I have a part-time business supplying metalwork to market stall holders but unfortunately it's the 'quiet' part of the year right now.

And I can work for a mate selling these wooden model construction kits in shopping precincts leading up to Christmas, that should bring me in an extra couple of thousand pounds on top of my redundancy package.

I'm not quite ready to throw myself off the bridge yet!

Regards
Peter

PS, I started to send the original message here and then cancelled it as I thought the general discussion area was more appropriate. I'm surprised that it still ended up here too.
