Switching Router question
|
|
|
| I remember reading a while back that you need a 2600 series router (or 3600) to make a good switching lab. What 2600 series do I need? I assume it would be a fastethernet series, but could somebody explain why?
Im starting the switching portion of my journey and am a bit confused.
thanks in advance. | |

| depends what you mean ....
if you want inter-vlan routing you need rsm
or router on a stick 2600 will work with this if it has a fast-ethernet interface.
on this interface you create trunk and a sub-interface for each vlan you want to route.
why ... due to the performance overhead involved you can only create isl trunk with fast-ether interface. | |

| Hmmm....maybe you mean a 2900 or 3500 Catalyst switches for a good switching lab? (If I'm wrong, ignore the rest of this post.)
What really blows is that I believe you'll be tested using the "set" commands also...which of course are not used on a 2900 or 3500 series.
AFAIK, the lea$t expen$ive Ci$co $witch that u$e$ $et command$ i$ the 4000 $erie$. Know what I mean?
Hope this helps. |
