The best piece of advice I could give to anyone who would sit 640-503 is:

Know BGP inside and out!
This includes the configure commands, not just theory. Know about redistribution from an EGP/BGP to an IGP and the keys of synchronization. (I got killed on that last part!)

Know the differences between OSPF and EIGRP
and all the references as far as areas and LSA types.

Know that the ExamCram for routing WILL NOT give you enough detail to get a passing score, it is very weak on OSPF and BGP.
Although the Switching book seems better.

And don't forget to bring a bottle of Mountain Dew and a small stash of Fudge Striped cookies for Brain Power!

This is the stuff I feel to be crucial in passing this exam. I just squeaked by, hopefully you will do better

Hey Reamer,
How's the job market down there in Atlanta? Thinking about going down south later on this year.

About the same as everywhere else. I would say things are starting to pick up though. I have gotten 4 calls this week from placement agencies that I sent my resume to over a year ago.

So come on down!

What is the pass mark for the routing 640-503 exam?
Cobby

The passing mark for the 640-503 is 690, and trust me you need to earn every one of those points. I believe the 504 is 770 so I am gonna need to study a little more for that one. The Exam Cram for Switching seems more thorough. (its about an inch thicker)

Good Luck

Hello Cobby,

It's a few months since I took the 504 but I believe the passing mark I had on that one was only (!) 695 or so.

The 505 pass is set at 705 as I recall, though I may have confused the two exams and these pass marks could be swapped over.

It's no-where near 770 anyway, so don't worry about it.

Also, switching has more to learn but most people seem to score good marks in it, I got my highest mark for that one. Most of the questions are a quick read and click the answer knowing that you've got it right as soon as you click 'next', it's that simple.

I was confident of a pass in switching by the time I'd got to question ten!

I think I recall the 504 as 690, I took Switching yesterday and may do Support next week as I think alot of the concepts learned through the studies on the others may apply.
I managed a 801 on Switching
(699 is the mark) and you are right, it was not all that bad. I need more time to prepare for BCRAN (remote access) But I have the class next semester so I may test after that. 2 down 2 to go!!!!

Best Regards
