question? what is the command ip http server used for. would it affect bandwidth on the link. the reason i am asking is because at work today we had a branch office complaining of slow response's on there lan and also on the wan. the network engineer asked to add the no ip http server command to the router. i was wondering i know it is enabled by default, how would that affect bandwidth.

ip http server is a security problem giving port 80 access to the router and should be disabled. Later revisions of IOS default it to off.

No reason to believe it has anything to with BW utilization, but should be disabled anyway.

The only time I could see a need for HTTP access to any of your router/switches is if your are completly isolated from the rest of the world and you feel you have a need for a GUI access rather than good old telnet/hyperterminal sessions(yeah I know there are other products out ther that do the same thing )

But I'd agree that its a definate NO NO for security.
