Hi all,
When I set a fastEthernet port in a Cat29XX series switch to 10mb/full duplex, the upload and download speed of the workstation attach to it is very very slow, but when I set the port to half duplex, the problem has been solved, anyone has the idea of this case, pls suggest, thanks.

The first thing I would do would be to make sure that the node itself is also statically set to the same as the switch port.

When in full duplex on the switch check for CRCs and frame errors on the port cuz this will indicate a duplex mismatch. Never leave either side in auto cuz you are only asking for problems!

strike attack is right .. aslo depanding on the which port is configured half duplex and which one is for full deuplex in switch, it works fine only in such case if Ethernet Card and switch port is configured at the same parameters like if you have configured your switch port for speed = 100 and duplex =full check the network card is configured in the same manner ..

hope this help.

Yup, everyone got it. If you forced your switch to full duplex, chances are that your computer network adapter isn't capable or is not configured for full duplex. The result can be very strange when looking at your statistics. Since collision detection is turned off in full duplex, you will see frags, CRC errors and tons of other problems all at the same time in about the same amounts.

So how do you fix it?? Well if you are running a windows based system, just right click on the network neighborhood icon, select properties, choose your adapter, and in the advanced parameters you should see a duplex item. Change it to full. If that isn't there, or it is shaded in, chances are that you cannot set this mode on your card.

For Solaris, Unix, and Lynix, you have to goto their respective web site and check out how to modify the configuration files. Just make sure that your card can support this before turning it on.
