I got
Routing Principles 71%
Extending IP address 0 %
Configuring OSFP in a Single Area 60%
Interconnecting Multiple OSFP Areas 30 %
Implementing Scalability Features.. 30 %

how do I improve on this section...would appreciate if can provide me some clue or web link to learn more about this..

Hi petertoong,

looks like you need to boost your OSPF knowledge a little. Re-read the book and also search on the internet (general search as well as Cisco) for OSPF Tutorials.

There are loads of files available that explain OSPF in many different ways. It's sometimes a good idea to read the same topic from different authors as they have different ways of explaining it and hopefully it makes more sense afterwards.

You're so close to a pass, an extra 2 - 3 OSPF questions answered correctly would probably get you there.

You seem to have highlighted the 'extending IP addresses', possibly because it rated '0'.
You may have only had one question on that topic so it's not something to worry about.

There are far more OSPF questions on the exam so boosting that subject should get you through.

Hi Peterd,

this calculation somehow stuck me in exam..
Extending IP address 0 %

because, when there is few route summarization Qs, or VLSM Qs...somemore there is multiple chooice..??

I knew my weakness is here..and somemore..like OSPF..BGP....

anyway, thanks you info

Petertoong,
Don't give up on this Peter, You've found the right forum for help - I know that when I've struggled there has been several people willing to help, and as you can see from recent posts they'll keep on helping until you grasp what ever the problem is.

Whenever I have a problem I search at Cisco for the answer, and then always do a search on this forum, these exams have been around for a while now so this forum holds a wealth of information it's just a matter of finding it.

Good luck with your BSCN - I'm taking a weekend off studying and going to start it on monday.

I recall that while ending my 503 exam, it was only 61 Q ? Actually, how many Questions for 640-503 ?

Mean I lost a chance to answer 1 more Q , and then on the Question 54, I accidently clicked NEXT without answer it. According to all your experience, is there anyway to retrieve back to 2 Questions from Cisco....by calling Cisco my situation ?

if yes, just give a try, else ...will retake the entire exam again..soon !

thanks

Extending IP addresses, that must mean that you had some issues around summarization, area management, and AS separation.

In general the purpose of this area of the test is to see if you know how to generate a routed environment with the most efficent attributes as possilbe. Some of these attributes to an efficent routed network is routing table size and convergence. OSPF, EIGRP and BGP all use route summarization to some degree to both decrease convergence time and decrease the numbers of entries in a routing table. The result is a more efficent network that has little traffic for routing protocols, maximizing bandwidth for routed protocols. This is essential for networks and Cisco identifies this with having quite a few questions on the test surrounding these areas.

That should encompass that area pretty well. As far as how it works specifically, quickly, you would have route summarization for EIGRP that is automatic unless you tell it not to summarize (usually have to do this), OSPF which won't let you configure a network any other way but you still have rules that govern how much and how many per router, and BGP which is the big-daddy of them all that can use maps, reflectors and access lists to 'shape' your routed network.

As for your test questions, it is a one way street, you either get it right or not. If you make a mistake and click next, that is interpreted that you skipped the question to save time and you cannot go back. As far as my exam, that was over a month ago but I believe that the numbers on this site are still right, 62 questions in 75 minutes.

Hope that at least gets you on the right track and good luck on your next attempt!!
