I don't know if this's proper to post my questions here. I am a new telecom student, and my teacher wants us to do some survey on network convergence. However, I have no idea where I could find a company or individual to conduct the survey. I think this web site might be my only hope to get the work done. Please help me out here. I really appreciate anyone who can answer my questions. Thanks a million.

Q:
Contact an organization or individual that has implemented a form of network convergence. Describe what they've done, the benefit(s) they get from it, how it works, and who supports the services (outsource vendors, internal/self support, etc). Find out what problems they encountered while implementing the solution and any areas that have been disappointing or fallen short of their expectations. This does not have to be a complex example, but should involve the transmission of voice or video over a packet data network.

When I speak of convergence, it means the entire network has come to the same state of ready (like a routing protocol or STP converging) so I'm a little confused by your instructor's choice of words, but if you get clarification and post your email address I'll help ya.

Pigy,
I guess what your looking for is voice/data convergance, technologies such as Voice over IP (VoIP).

I don't want to place an advert for my company but they sent out a mailshot to all customers on advantages of VoIP a short while ago, I think this link is what they sent :-
http://www.baileytelecom.co.uk/solu...data/voip.shtml

Other useful sites are :-

www.cisco.com (obviously :-))
http://www.mitel.com/products/category.cfm?c_id=21
www.avaya.com

and theres loads more if you want to search for them.

Convergance is definitley the way networking is going to go as voice/data/multimedia products all merge together.

If you need any more info just place a post in this forum.

At least it should give you some pretty cool pictures for your report. A Cisco study on converging all these technologies in industry today. Gives some good background on all the technologies with convergence techniques.

Hope this helps.

Hi depamo,

Thanks. Yes, the link certainly helps a lot for the idea. But, if there's anyone can give his/her own experience on setup their own network on network convergence, I would more than appreciate. By the way, thanks for anyone spending your time on my questions.
