Which hardware components would someone need to set up a BGP environment. Anyone done this at home?

Bgp configuration can be done on any router or msm or msfc. I believe at this time most code versions will have BGP functionality. So to answer your question I believe you can imitate BGP peering and routing with 2 2500's.

Im not sure if the lower platforms have BGP functionality?????

Please double check me, but I think im right on this one.

You can setup BGP at home on 2500 series routers. Best if you have more then one so you can play with the route reflector and policy routing. With two you can get most of the policy work done but since you only have the one path, won't do too much.

Easiest to have them in two differnt AS's and use the DTE/DCE cable to connect. You can use the ethernet adapters in a similar fashion but it will not be able to propogate enough networks to work with it that much.

I haven't seen too many Flashes that don't support BGP 11.2 and higher, pretty standard now.

Actually the coolest setup is 4 routers, using 2 AS's, you get the chance to use route reflectors in the IGP and route maps to direct traffic to one port or the other based on the attributes comming from the BGP peer.
