| How hard would everyone rate the CCNP Routing test (640-503). I'm just getting started preparing for it and was just curious. Thanks Jamie | |

| I thought it was pretty tough.
It was much tougher than BCRAN (the only other CCNP test I have taken) | |

| Hi,
I found it rather tedious...
bearing in mind that I only have experience with EIGRP on a small network, all of the information about BGP, OSPF, etc was new to me and I had little chance of practicing on real equipment.
So I read tons of stuff for about six months, took lots of practice exams and after that the actual exam was fairly average to easy. But I did work hard for six months before...
So I'd say that it depends on your current experience and how much work you put into studying.
Regards

| I for some reason thought it was pretty easy, scored a 931. I have BCRAN and CIT left. From what it seems like BCRAN should be easy for me. | |

| Information in the exam is pretty straight forward, this command, this protocol - you don't have to make any leaps of faith or work through tedious problems. All the information in the exam is in the Cisco Press books. You just need to study it. If you have past router experience with at least half of the protocols (I used BGP and EIGRP) it will be a breeze. If you are starting cold, it will seem pretty rough with a lot of memorization.
Hope that helps some. | |

| Thanks to everyone for posting. I have gathered from alot of the posts that it depends greatly on your hands-on experience. I have had alot of experience with a few routing protocols like RIP and a little OSPF but no BGP and I understand that that is a big part of the composition of the test. BGP is really the only thing that scares me.
Thanks agian

| Dont let BGP scare ya, its not that bad once you get the hang of it. They didnt hit me too hard on the exam with BGP questions, a majority of them were fairly easy questions. Good luck! | |

| Everything you need to know about the exam is in the book. Most people fail the exam becasue they didn't attempt to figure out what the book was saying. If you could memorize the entire book, you would get a near perfect score. Many have gone before you with no experience at all!! Don't fret, if the only protocol you don't work with is BGP, that is simple. At least you understand the principles of routing protocols, so this will just be another one.
In the end they all attempt to do the same thing, move traffic from one port to another using the infomation that they learn and know. Boils down to concepts. You will hardly ever see all the mechanics of real BGP unless you work for an ISP.
Personally, I though the CCDA was much harder then then BSCN, no case studies, no leaps of faith and everything is pretty right or wrong, very few questions will be misleading. It is just a lot of information. |
