Has anyone used the CiscoPress CCNP Certification series b4? I intend to set up a lab and need some good lab scenarios. How do the Certification guides fare in this?

I know that the CCNA Cert guide was really good. Wonder if the CCNP guides are up to that standard...

Also, can anyone recommend a good lab setup? Seen some on Ebay (usually about 4 routers) but dunnoe how they really are? I'm also keen on a good switch...one that can take me further than CCNP? =p

Thanks a mil!!

bolero,

the ccnp exam certification guides have at least 3 scenarios in each chapter and some have more in the appendix sections. As far as routers, there aren't any good simulation products so chat around with people and figure out what a good price is and then no matter where you see it you buy it.

Usually a stupid question but if you have some spare cash and want to have some really out there scenarios, try out Volume 1, CCIE TCP/IP Routing. If nothing else, it really helps you to understand the routing portion of the CCNP track. Brings EIGRP, OSPF and BGP into focus with some great examples, and tons of explinations and trick to try.

If you get a switch and you want to use in a lab, for 1.9k switches, make sure you get the Enterprise series, others don't have the CLI, just the menu system. Have seen a few posts about that and would hate to see you waste your money. Other then that, be shrewd on Ebay and make sure that you get exactly what you want!! If it isn't there today it will be in a few more days and probably cheaper. When you get routers, make sure that they have the right IOS you want to work with and the necessary memory to run the protocols you want to play with. Most routers on there are pretty good and from people that have finished their CCNP or CCIE Lab recently. I have seen then as cheap as $350 for a 2514.

Have fun!!
