| can anyone help[ me further understand this? I know converts layer 3 broadcasts into layer 2 broadcasts if it is not enabled but what does that mean for me.
Should I enter this command on my router config?
It is enabled by default on 12.0 code, I am running 11.0.

| disableing ip directed broadcasts will keep the
router from answering pings on the wan interface to known broadcast addresses thereby giving you a
certain level of protection against denial of
service attacks.
i think this answers the q ??

| NO IP DIRECTED-BROADCAST
On by default. This feature DOES NOT allow broadcasts to be forwarded as unicasts. To enable, use IP DIRECTED-BROADCAST and then use IP HELPER-ADDRESS to configure.
Helper Addresses are obviously a way to take broadcasts and forward them as unicasts. It is one of the few exceptions to routers creating layer 3 boundaries. | |
