I have been getting ready for 503, BSCN and I hate OSPF with a passion. For protocols, the only time I would use it is if I had no other choice. Pain in the booty to setup and even more difficult to scale properly when surprises happen. Anyhow my question to the audience, how much is enough to study for OSPF for the exam??

Do you have to know every detail and how to explicitly setup upto the Cisco constraints or is it just a familiarization where I will be expected to understand the operation and the ability, some simple commands and then move on??

I have lots of experience with BGP-4 and EIGRP (much better solution, not only for planning but implementation) and want to condense my studying as much as possible so if anyone can give me some information on this, would be much abliged!!

the BSCN exam is pretty evenly split between OSPF, EIGRP and BGP. But it's not really indepth questions. Know the basics (Hello intervals, basic commands, LSA ) and you're fine. Check out the Boson tests. If you can score in the high 70% on Boson, you can easily pass the BSCN. I was getting 70s and 80s on boson and passed easily.

Well, nice comment. Do not expect CCNP to test you like a pro. Anyway, I am taking this coming 30th. Might shift it earlier. Last paper to go. In fact, I find those BGP, OSPF and EIGRP stuffs interesting.

Just to add, I am a designer as well as a plumber.

don't underestimate the value of ospf on
the routing exam !
whether you like it or not
ospf is a major part of the exam !
accounting for my lowest score
on a cisco exam to date.
this is the one most people fail and i had maybe
15-20 ospf q's

Thanks for the reply. I can understand where you are both comming from. I have one week to get ready for the test so I will insure that I have control of OSPF and kick some serious booty.

Thanks again for the responses, helps immensely to hear others that have been there to help me make the most out of this certification process.
