I have a question for everyone....After entering the passive interface within and interface say an interface with eigrp will this interaface still be able to advertised it's connected network? Will it behave just like a normal interface but just not send out any hello's out that interface to discover eigrp enabled routers?

Thanks in advance...

As ccnpsoon's link says, with EIGRP if you have configured a passive-interface, it doesn't send or receive EIGRP routing table updates. In other words any networks only connected by that interface will not be seen by EIGRP. As far as a directly connected network, you will see it in the routing table with a "C" in front of it, but it won't advertise it out of that interface, but it will out of all the others. Also, if other routing protocols are running, it doesn't keep them from working normally out of that interface.

I hope that answered what you were asking.

Also remember, this is only with EIGRP. With most other routing protocols, a passive-interface can still receive updates.

Thanks Trouble Man for that clarification....

Another way of thinking about it is a "passive-interface" doesn't send EIGRP Hellos and without Hellos it won't form an adjacency and therefore there will never be any exchange of info.

If u use passive interface command in eigrp or ospf enviorment it wont establish adjecensy, because it can't send out hello packet, and its mean no routing update, because u have to establish adjecency before you can send or recieve routing update. passive interface is only work in rip and igrp enviorment because you don't need to send any hello packet means you don't need to establish any adjacency to send or recieve a routing update or table. is it helpfull? if not sorry.
