I'm a CCNA, MCSE (NT) and working on CCNP and I can't seem to even get into a junior engineer position. I currently work as a computer operator in downtown columbus, Ohio. I'm flooding resumes out like crazy and no one seems to be hiring for these positions. Companies are looking for EXPERIENCE!!! Do I have to get both CCIE's just to get in the door for the experience? I'm sorry guys...I'm just frustrated. Thanx for listening.

Tristin,

Don't give up. I have faced my share of adversity also. I'm a 22 year old Senior Systems Engineer. It was very difficult to go from good hardware guy to a respected systems engineer in the short amount of time that I did. I had to hit the books, hard. I also was fortunate enough to learn at an early age how to "Work the system" to get what I want. My point... Don't give up... If there is not a demand in your area, you may need to relocate.

No, you just need some experience. Or some company willing to take a chance on someone with no experience.
Every body and their brother has a certification of some sort and you have two of the most popular out there. Too many companies have been burned by hiring individuals based on the letters after their name instead of ability and many are not willing to make that mistake again, even if it means the position goes unfilled for a good while.
Think about how many people out there have their MCSE and CCNA with no experience and how many resumes they send out to the same companies you do. Now start going through your resume and finding things to differentiate yourself. Emphasize those things.
Right now my brother in law is going to one of these Cert schools because he's been led to believe that if he get's certified companies will immediately start throwing high-paying job offers his way. It just doesn't work that way, folks.
My company doesn't even ask prospective employees about their certifications because it doesn't matter. The decision is made 100% on experience and fit in the company.

Do not give up, its hard some timeto get in, and it all depends upon a person who is hiring, will that person goes for certs or experience.

Hang in there, you are not the only one who feels that way.

Post again after you get your CCNP and upgrade your MCSE to W2K and see what happen. By that time probably you are too busy in your job or refusing job offer!

Just think about what the market want. Who still want MCSE(NT4) when everyone is considering or upgrading to W2K. Think about how important the network today for normal business and who want someone with no experience to look after their network? Jobs in Windows NT & W2K should not be difficult to find. Job in networking expect a more working experience.

If you have CCIE, jobs will probably come to you. That is what I am going to do, and I have 6 years of rock solid experience in networking.

I have a friend who has his CCNP, and doesn't even list it on his resume. If an employer asks, then he'll tell them . . . but the information filling his resume is the experience he has.
I know that's not what you want to hear . . . but you may want to find a position with an ISP. They are always looking for help.

BlueBaron,

I agree with your post. If you truly have the skills, you won't need credentials to get your foot in the door, and your reputation will precede you. I'm not quite there yet, but I can see the day getting closer and closer...
