WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY STILL AWAITS LAID-OFF TECHIES
(Cox News Service)

So, high-tech workers, now that you've been laid off, where are you going
now? The answer's not Disney World, but maybe Bujumbura or Beijing. Or
more likely, right back to work.

Just this week, the number of job cuts at Internet-related firms hit a
dreary milestone of 100,000 employees since December 1999, according to
TheStandard.com's Layoff Tracker.

Many of the newly unemployed have been hit hard by their misfortunes.
Personal bankruptcies have reached a two-year high in northern California,
and the business of repossessing luxury cars is booming in Silicon Valley.

Yet it appears most in the tech sector remain optimistic when it comes to
their futures.

'Sure there's a feeling that playtime is over, but the majority still has
faith in the industry,' said Mark Oldman, co-founder of New York-based
Vault.com, which offers job boards and a resume database. 'Many are
seeking other jobs, and why shouldn't they? Their prospects are still
good.' read on at:

Did anyone ever take economics,

I'm sick and tired of hearing all these people who don't know anything about economics always believing what the media tells them. Oh ok its Greenspans fault that all these companies are going out of business. Not the fact that all these companies had no real business plan and half of them don't have a product for that matter. Then there is the fact that all these companies weren't making any money. If I remember it was Greenspan who told you put all your money in the tech sector. Any how I'm not going to say anything else about that subject people don't like it when you say "the bottle is half empty" in this forum. But you are right to be worried I will tell you that. Second, things go in cycles. Now back to the switching test. I didn't find the switching test that hard and I hope you do well in it since your going to pass IT "get it IT". I thought it was funny. Anyway you mind as well bang out what you have left. And anyone that wants to have a debate about economics just bring it. And don't take this so negative trying to make things interesting and not so bland.

There are way too many luxury cars in the valley anyway. =)

I think that many people saw this downturn coming, the industry was choking on the excesses of venture capital shoved down its throat. No matter how much you invest in something it will not mature overnight. Driven by funding, the companies at some point kept growing faster than the actual demand for their services. (It's not like these companies were going to REFUSE money right!?) Now that investors are pulling out, these companies are suffering.

The industry is still in its infant stages, give it time to grow. (And if not - we can always go back to smoke signals...)

Yes I know, the feds dropped the rate 5 times in about 8 months, just to undo what Green and the " committee" did in the middle of last year. Many company's fell on the sword, other did not have a chance for growth, which leaves the major corporations without that much competition now does it. He had no business jacking the rates in the first place. Of course no body knows that the market historically corrects itself in October. Just the thought to allow wealth to accumulate certainly would not be a motive, (the Brits showed us that light) You know this man was appointed not elected, nevertheless, no more one way debates for me on politics. This industry is in its infancy stage, there is talk some time at the being of the year the wave will pick up, that is if things don't start turning green. A moment of venting can do some good sometime wouldn't you agree. In the mean time I will figure out the pH balance of a drill bit and I will carry on, I have nothing else to do. *S*
