Cisco Press or Sybex?

| I am debating on whether to buy Cisco's CCNP Preparation Library Second Edition (the 4-book set) or Sybex's equivalent version. The difference in $$ between the two is not a problem. Has anybody got both of these and can tell me which is better, or did anybody take the test(s) and felt that one of the two covered all the exams completely.
Thanks again for your help. | |

| I like to use as many resources as possible and practical.
My #1 preference for published material is Cisco Press. I think they are the most complete and always useful for future reference.
I also read the Sybex books and the switching book I felt was good but the router book was lacking.
Also don't forget online resources such as CCO.
Good luck. | |

| I have both sets of books. I read the Sybex books first to get familiar with the topics. Then I read the same material in the Cisco Press books to fill in the details and really cement what I've learned. I did this on the CCNA exam and aced it. I hope this technique works for all the CCNP tests.
Cheers

| I agree with the other replys to get the Cisco Press books as your primary source. But I usually get the Syngress books over the Sybex. I like the format better, and they seem to cover the material better than the Sybex. (of course this is just my opinion)

| Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to go with the Cisco books, and after I buy them I'll read them. Then I'll decide which test to take (right now I'm leaning toward the routing). | |

| One plus for the sybex book is they give you the book on .PDF file this can be a huge study aid if you read from your computer much. It seems to help me push the material along. Sometimes its so hard to study I like to read this stuff but to me there is a difference to reading and retaining what I am reading. If I am not in the mood I will find myself having to reread a entire pager over because I was paying attention to what I was reading. I guess my point is every little thing helps when you are working on a test. | |

| I have the cisco press books. They are great, a little dry at times, but they are good. DONT FORGET to use bestbookbuys.com to get the lowest price. You can search by ISBN number. I will even give it to you for the preperation library: 1-58705-013-7. |
